What NightSurf is Not: NightSurf does not index, list or otherwise promote internet services which fail to meet our high standards. These standards prohibit sites that engage in various offensive practices, ranging from aggressive marketing tactics that ensnare minors to fraudulent and misleading advertising. NightSurf does not list services which engage in any of the following offensive practices (NightSurf's "Dozen Dirty Deeds"):


    Our Standards: Twelve Offensive Practices Which Disqualify a Service from NightSurf:

1. Any service which presents, links to, or otherwise promotes illegal obscenity (sometimes called "hardcore pornography")
2. Any service which presents, links to, or otherwise promotes child pornography, actual or depicted
3. Any service which does not comply with the requirements of federal legislation such as the Child Online Protection Act (COPA), i.e., any service which presents excessive, gratuituous explicit nudity -- content considered "harmful to minors" -- prior to verification of age through a congressionally-approved mechanism such as a "credit card wall"
4. Any service that has failed to request filtering companies (NetNanny, SurfWatch, etc) to block minors from accessing their content
5. Any service that does not maintain physical documentation attesting to the legal age of all models appearing within the service (compliance with applicable "custodian of records" laws)
6. Any service which promotes its site(s), directly or indirectly, by using unsolicited commercial bulk email (e.g., "UCBE" or "spam") or through related abusive practices such as unsolicited mass instant-messaging and chat-room flooding.
7. Any service which, in an attempt to get listed prominently on search engines, "keyword-spams" engines by using inappropriate "metatag" terms which may ensnare minors performing innocent searches (such as "girl" or "pussy") or otherwise uses metatag terms which may infringe upon the right of others
8. Any service which unreasonably abuses the consumer surfing experience ("page-jacking", excessive "exit consoles", etc.)
9. Any service which knowingly permits, and implicitly encourages, trafficking in others' copyrighted intellectual property (i.e., unmoderated "picpost" sites, newsgroup sites, etc)
10. Any service which presents explicit material on "hijacked" or "cybersquatted" domain names that are, in and of themselves, of no interest to adult-oriented audiences (e.g., vatican.com), with particular emphasis placed on those domain names that minors might accidentally visit, such as a child researching a report on government who visits WhiteHouse.com
11. Any service which has been subject to regulatory or law-enforcement scrutiny alleging certain abuses, such as false/deceptive advertising or overcharging of credit cards
12. Any service which fails to disclose where it is physically located, and which fails to provide both NightSurf and the web-surfing public with contact information such as mailing address, telephone number and email address
